When the Internet Had Personality 🛠️
index.htm ⮐

This site is inspired by and a nod to 1990s web design. Yeah, I
know there's irony in someone with a background in UX research
and usability having a site that looks like a relic from 1996. The UX
is just as questionable as it was back then, but it's a reminder that
design isn't only about polish, it's about personality too. Imagine
some MIDI 🎵 music playing in the background while you scroll.

In the early days of the web, if you wanted to express yourself
online, you had to build a personal home page from scratch. Back
when you built everything by hand and every pixel meant something.
Custom HTML, image maps, animated GIFs, 88x31 buttons, and all
the personal touches. Maybe you even joined a webring or two.

Now? Most people just post on social media and it's stripped away
a lot of creativity. Templates replaced tinkering, and the web lost
some of its unique, personal charm. At least you don't have to say,
"Get off the phone! I'm trying to use the Internet!" anymore. ☎️🌐
